CLEVELAND, Ohio – Hormel, the people who make Spam, are putting a new flavor on supermarket shelves – maple. As a native of Chardon, Ohio, maple syrup capital of our state, I was skeptical.

To start with, I’m not a fan of the pale pink meat cake. It smells, and looks, like those little round tins of cat food. But, just in case the manufacturer created a winner, I logged onto Amazon and ordered both original and maple-flavored.
