Minors: Robby Snelling to TinCaps highlights promotions; Dylan Lesko starts again

As the 2023 season approached, Robby Snelling couldn’t wait to get going.

He hasn’t slowed one bit, either.

The 19-year-old left-hander on Tuesday was promoted from low Single-A Lake Elsinore to high Single-A Fort Wayne, his reward for leading all qualifying Padres prospects with a 1.57 ERA through the first 11 starts of his professional career.

Snelling is 5-1 with 59 strikeouts, just 13 walks and a .211 opponent average over 51 2/3 innings, leading MLB.com to push him into their top-100 prospect rankings for the first time. He is currently at No. 87.

Snelling was the 39th overall pick in last year’s draft but did not debut until April, with the Padres choosing to work on his change-up in instructional league and unveil him this spring in Lake Elsinore, bypassing the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Snelling’s promotion was one of several announced Tuesday as the Padres’ full-season affiliates settle into the second halves of their seasons:

LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (32-35)

ROOKIE ACL PADRES (9-9)

ROOKIE DSL PADRES BROWN (8-8) / GOLD (10-6)
